Overview
Metro Kids is a fee-based before and after school childcare program available in elementary schools on school days.  All kindergarten through fifth-grade students are eligible. Program hours are 6:30 a.m. to 5:45 p.m.  On non-school days, all-day child-care services are available at regional sites.

Staff are certified in CPR, First Aid and obtain the required number of training hours as required by the Department of Human Services.  All Metro Kids sites are licensed by DHS.

We have a grant connected with United Way that has provided staff training to incorporate Literacy and Science into our programming.  We also work with Blank Children’s hospital and incorporate a program called CATCH into our programs, it is targeted to fight child obesity, using nutrition and physical activities to get kids moving while having fun.

Our Mission
Metro Kids maintains the integrity of the Des Moines Public Schools mission by providing enrichment activities that encourage children to further their educational and social development by participating in creative, technical, recreational and interactive opportunities while attending before and after school programming.

Our Goals
To serve the families of Des Moines Public Schools by providing safe, affordable and developmentally appropriate childcare programming for grade K-5 children.
