As Iowa’s largest provider of public education – with nearly 33,000 students and more than 5,000 employees – Des Moines Public Schools has the largest budget of any school district in the state, supporting the education of our children with more than $500 million annually.

While the challenging economy of recent years has meant significant cuts in funding for public schools, DMPS has minimized classroom impact while simultaneously holding the line on taxes.

In addition, to ensure the most efficient use of public tax dollars, Des Moines Public Schools is making a concerted effort to involve more stakeholders in the fiscal decision-making process. Visit the links to the right for more information about two advisory committees the district created to provide budgetary input.
