Youth Career Fair to be Held Next Week at East and Hoover

All high school students from Des Moines Public Schools are invited to attend a Youth Opportunity Fair next week to learn about job and volunteer opportunities in the community.

Two events will be held on:

Tuesday, May 7
2:15 to 4:15 PM
Hoover High School
4800 Aurora Ave.

Wednesday, May 8
11:30 AM to 1:30 PM
East High School
815 E. 13th St.

The Youth Opportunity Fair is sponsored by Des Moines Public Schools and United Way Financial Capability Network. Approximately 45 employers will be on-hand to inform students about job opportunities. Students will be able to apply for jobs as well as learn about higher education options and volunteer opportunities.

“The experience a student gains from volunteering is equally as important as a paid job,” said Lyn Marchant, Community Schools Site Coordinator at East High School. “By volunteering, not only is the student giving back to the community but they also are developing a resume and skills to add to future job applications.”
