Weather Alert for Monday, January 6, 2014
The current forecast for Monday, January 6 indicates that the high temperature for the day will be below zero. Due to the forecast for very low temperatures combined with the wind chill factor, Des Moines Public Schools will be monitoring the forecast, weather conditions and National Weather Service alerts throughout the weekend.
The biggest issue in making a decision about whether to cancel or delay classes on Monday is the health and well-being of students, particularly those who walk to school or wait for a bus.
If school is cancelled or delayed, a decision will be made and announced no later than 6:00 AM through the local news media as well as on the DMPS web site, Facebook and Twitter pages.
At all times throughout the winter please make sure students are dressed appropriately for the weather conditions and, unless a student takes part in a before school program or activity, are not dropped off or walk to school prior to the time the building is open.
