Open House Set for Newly Renovated Central Campus
The public is invited to an open house celebrating renovations to the third floor at Central Campus. Improvements were paid for by the one-cent local option sales tax. The open house will be held:
Tuesday, Sept. 21
5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Central Campus
1800 Grand Ave.
Third floor renovations cost approximately $14 million and included updates to several programs and departments at Central Campus, including Aquarium Science, Broadcasting & Film, Commercial Photography, Fashion Design & Merchandising, Graphic Communications, Marine Biology, and the Gateway Secondary School.
Culinary Arts students will provide refreshments for the open house and visitors will have the opportunity to participate in activities in each classroom — print a t-shirt, star in a movie, see sting rays and sharks, extract DNA, take their blood pressure, and other curriculum-related activities.
“We are anxious to showcase the beautiful new learning spaces that have been created through public support,” said Julie Rosin, Central Campus Assistant Director.
Renovations of first and second floors at Central Campus will begin soon and will include classroom space and a playground for the Downtown School, improvements to the Culinary Arts kitchen and cafe, and an elevated walkway between Central Academy and Central Campus. These updates will be paid for by the statewide sales tax approved in 2008.
