North High Named Apple Distinguished School

North High School is pleased to announce that it has been recognized as an Apple Distinguished School for 2013- 2015 for its work at implementing programs to make computer technology available on a 1:1 ratio to all students.

The Apple Distinguished School designation is reserved for programs that meet criteria for innovation, leadership, and educational excellence, and demonstrate a clear and consistent vision of exemplary learning environments.

“Making sure all of our students have access to the world through technology has played an important role in the academic turnaround we are realizing for students at North. From increasing the graduation rate, increasing our AP participation, and increasing our college applicants, the access to and use of technology plays a direct role in the academic success of our students,” said principal Mike Vukovich.

“The selection of North as an Apple Distinguished School highlights our success as an innovative and compelling learning environment that engages students and provides tangible evidence of academic accomplishment,” added Vukovich.

In the fall of 2011, North High, which educates approximately 1,250 students, became the largest 1:1 computer laptop school in Iowa when it issued Macbook laptop computers to all students. Starting this year, North is providing iPads to its student body.
