Most Recent Snow Days Extend School Year Calendar … At Least for Now
District leadership from Des Moines Public Schools late this afternoon decided to add the two most recent snow days to the end of an already-extended school calendar, but left the door open to revise the calendar again after getting input from staff and parents.
“We’re considering several options that would help us avoid adding days to the end of the calendar, but we want to get feedback from staff and parents before making any atypical changes,” said Associate Superintendent Connie Cook. “So, for now, we are going to tack these latest snow days onto the end of the school year, while we take the time to survey people district-wide to find out what they are thinking.”
The Des Moines Independent Community School District is Iowa’s largest provider of public education serving the individual needs of more than 31,000 students in 66 schools with more than 5,000 dedicated teachers and staff.
