International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme Holds Informational Meeting for Sophomores

Central Academy will hold an informational meeting about the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme for high school sophomore students and parents interested in learning more about the program. Applications are being taken from current sophomores who will begin the program at the start of the 2013-2014 school year.

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme is an academically challenging and balanced program of education for high school juniors and seniors. Students who successfully complete the two-year program earn an internationally recognized IB Diploma in addition to their Iowa high school diploma.

Students interested in the IB Diploma Programme complete an application and are interviewed their sophomore year. Students who undertake the program complete all of their IB coursework at Central Academy while retaining their home school affiliation for elective and extra-curricular participation.

Successful IB candidates are students who are self-motivated, enjoy intellectual and academic challenges, possess good time management skills, and have taken rigorous preparatory coursework.

“One of the reasons that the Texas Tech University Honors College gives preferential treatment to IB graduates is that we have come to value the quality of the student who completes this program,” said Gary M. Bell, Dean of the TTU Honors College at Texas Tech University. “The most substantial attraction for us is that the student who completes the IB program is certifiably motivated, hard-working, curious and conscientious.  Nothing predicts college success better than those qualities.”
