First DMPS International World Languages Festival is April 10
Celebrate spring, culture and learning at the first annual DMPS International World Languages Festival.
The festival will be held Thursday, April 10 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Central Campus (1800 Grand Avenue in Des Moines).
The event is free and open to the public. It is co-sponsored by Des Moines Public Schools and the Iowa International Center.
Among the many activities taking place at the festival include:
- performances by JASI Taiko drummers and Salsa Des Moines
- French folk dancing
- a Chinese student fashion show
- information on German and Portugese language and culture
- booths with displays of student work and cultural realia
- food from Latin American, France and China
- crafts: Japanese fabric folding, pulseras, cascarones, and Spanish hojalatas
- Chinese paper crafts and lanterns
- Arabic script demo
- tour of a Japanese Tea House
- French diction competition by students
- Goodrell Japanese Anime Club
- teacher demonstration of DuoLingo
- Information booths for the Iowa International Center and the Des Moines Public Library
