DMPS Social Worker Named Iowa School Social Worker of the Year

Lori Rogerson, a Des Moines Public Schools social worker, has been named the Iowa School Social Worker of the Year by the Iowa School Social Workers Association (ISSWA).

Rogerson serves as a social worker at North High School and the Carver Community School and is the point person for the district’s teen suicide prevention efforts. She also is a grief response team leader. She has worked for Des Moines Public Schools for nine years.

“Lori has always gone above what is typically expected in her role by addressing any needs that she sees,” said Shelly Bosovich, executive director of special education for Des Moines Public Schools. “She is the kind of person who inspires others to be their best.”

Nominated by one of her peers, Rogerson will be honored at an ISSWA statewide conference in West Des Moines on Jan. 15, 2010.

“I work with incredibly proactive staff and families,” said Rogerson. “I wish more people knew the lengths Des Moines Public Schools staff go to assist students to be successful inside and outside of the classroom and beyond the academic day.”
