DMPS Honored for Excellence in Financial Accounting
Des Moines Public Schools has once again been honored by two national business organizations for its excellence in financial reporting and accounting. This is the third year in a row Des Moines Public Schools was recognized by the Association of School Business Officials (ASBO) and the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA).
The district’s Business and Finance Department was awarded the GFOA Certificate of Achievement for Excellence Award in Financial Reporting and the ASBO International Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting.
Both awards recognized the high quality and standards of the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report prepared by Des Moines Public Schools for the 2009 fiscal year.
“This recognition is a great testament to our staff for all of the fine work they do to maintain the strong financial integrity of this district,” said Patricia Schroeder, chief financial officer for Des Moines Public Schools. “We would not have received either award without the hard work and dedication of each and every staff member in our department — from the cashier to the staff accountants, from the accounts payable clerks to our controller.”
According to GFOA, “Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.”
