Des Moines Public Schools School Board Election
The Des Moines Public Schools school board election will be held Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2009. Four seats on the Des Moines Public Schools’ board of directors are open. The board members elected on Sept. 8 will serve four-year terms, new for the first time since the state law recently passed requiring four-year terms. As a result, school board elections will be held every two years thereafter.
The deadline for filing candidacy papers to run for school board is Thursday, July 30, by 5 p.m. Completed papers must be returned to Sarah Taylor at the DMPS administrative offices, 901 Walnut St.
“Serving on a local board of education, while often challenging, is also deeply rewarding,” said Ginny Strong, chair of the Des Moines School Board. “This role allows a citizen the ability to have direct involvement in helping to prepare the next generation to meet life’s challenges and pursue their dreams.”
Election Day is Tuesday, Sept. 8. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
