Central Campus Instructor Named State Biology Teacher of the Year

Kacia Cain, Central Campus anatomy & physiology and biotechnology teacher, has been named Outstanding Biology Teacher of the Year for the state of Iowa by the National Association of Biology Teachers.

Cain taught biology at East High School for 19 years before transferring to Central Campus to have the opportunity to teach students from all over the district and central Iowa.

“Students in Ms. Cain’s classes are always involved in a hands-on activity where science comes alive,” said Julie Rosin, Central Campus assistant director. “They learn about science by participating in science, hearing from real scientists, and taking field trips to explore science-related careers in our community.”

Cain will be recognized in October at the National Association of Biology Teachers convention in Anaheim, Calif.

Since its establishment in 1938, the National Association of Biology Teachers (NABT) has been the recognized “leader in life science education.” Thousands of educators have joined NABT to share experiences and expertise with colleagues from around the globe; keep up with trends and developments in the field; and grow professionally.
