DMPS Celebrates MLK Day – DMPS-TV News
As a way to celebrate the upcoming Martin Luther King Jr. Day, students prepared packages for Meals From the Heartland in the school gymnasium on January 17th. Before students put on their hairnets to to pack the meals, ISU Vice President for Public Affairs, Dr. Thomas Hill, spoke in the auditorium and urged the audience of pre-k through 8th graders to further their educations.
In the spirit of MLK Day, members of the Youth Advisory Committee and other student philanthropy groups teamed up to lend a helping hand to those in need. The group gathered at the Central Iowa Shelter and Services building to help pick up trash, clean, and organize the food pantry.
The young poets of Movement 515 use their voices and signs to pay homage to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and all the unsung heroes who have fought for equality, justice, and peace. The group marched from the Iowa State Capitol to Evelyn Davis Park after performing for Gov. Branstad and Lt. Reynolds in the Euclid Room on January 20th.
